NTTO: March 2026 International Travel Volume
In March 2026, international visitor arrivals to the United States totaled 5,537,310, an increase of 2 percent compared to March 2025
Outbound travel departures from the United States by U.S. citizens totaled 9,308,594 in March 2026, an increase of 5.2 percent compared to March 2025
Data recently released by the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) show that in March 2026:
International Arrivals to the United States
- Total non-U.S. resident international visitor volume to the United States of 5,537,310 increased 2 percent compared to March 2025, representing 88.5 percent of the pre-COVID total visitor volume reported for March 2019.
- Overseas visitor volume to the United States of 2,476,428 increased 3.6 percent from March 2025.
The largest number of international visitor arrivals was from Canada (1,533,003), followed by Mexico (1,527,879), the United Kingdom (330,242), Japan (175,226), and Germany (148,281). Combined, these top 5 source markets accounted for 67.1 percent of total international arrivals. - The top 5 overseas tourism arrivals for March were from the United Kingdom (270,435), Japan (143,153), Brazil (126,845), Germany (117,687), and Colombia (90,803).
- The top 5 overseas business arrivals for March were from the United Kingdom (56,993), India (35,340), Japan (29,549), Germany (28,926), and China (25,133).
- The top 5 overseas student arrivals for March were from China (23,978), India (11,986), South Korea (4,672), Brazil (3,540), and Taiwan (2,984).
International Departures from the United States
- Total U.S. citizen international visitor departures from the United States of 9,308,594 increased 5.2 percent compared to March 2025 and were 111.2 percent of total departures in pre-pandemic March 2019.
- The market share for North America (Mexico & Canada) was 51 percent and overseas was 49 percent.
- Mexico recorded the largest outbound visitor volume of 3,731,180 (40.1 percent of total departures for March). Canada recorded a year-over-year (YOY) increase of 4.2 percent.
- Combined YTD, Mexico (10,498,488) and the Caribbean (2,954,688) accounted for 54.8 percent of total U.S. citizen international visitor departures.
- Europe was the second-largest market for outbound U.S. visitors with 1,636,773 departures. This accounted for 17.6 percent of all departures in March. Outbound visitation to Europe in March 2026 increased 2.8 percent compared to March 2025.
