NTTO Publishes Characteristics of Canada and Mexico Land Visitors to the United States for Calendar Year 2025

Canadian-Land's Top State Visited: New York (2.1 million)

Mexican-Land's Top State Visited: California (6.3 million)


The National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) is reporting on the characteristics of the 14.4 million Mexican and 7.4 million Canadians who visited the United States by land in Calendar Year 2025.

Key highlights of Mexican Overnight Land Visitors (14.4 million) to the United States in 2025 include:

  • Top Source Mexican States: Texas/New Mexico Border (27.6 percent), California Border-Baja States (11.0 percent), Arizona-Sonora (8.2 percent), and Other Mexico 45.3 (percent)

  • Top U.S. States Visited: California (6.3 million), Texas (5.6 million), Arizona (1.5 million), Florida (613K), and Nevada (590K)

  • Travel Party Composition*: Family/Relatives (71.6 percent), Spouse/Partner (56.8 percent), Friends(s) (14.9 percent)

  • Average Length of Stay (5.7 Nights), Average Number of U.S. States Visited (1.6)
    Average Household Income ($48,659), Average Expenditures in the United States Per-Travel Party ($2,634)

  • Top Main Purpose of Trip: Vacation/Holiday (73.6 percent), Visit Friends/Relatives (19.2 percent), and Business (6.2 percent)

  • Top Leisure Activities Engaged: Sightseeing (59.3 percent), Shopping (37.6 percent), Visit National Parks/Monuments (24.2 percent), Amusement/Themepark/Waterpark (22.3 percent), and Concert/Play/Musical (21.4 percent)

Key highlights of Canadian Overnight Land Visitors (7.4 million) to the United States in 2025 include:

  • Top Source Canadian Provinces: Ontario (48.4 percent), Quebec (21.1 percent), and British Columbia (13.9 percent)

  • Top U.S. States Visited: New York (2.1 million), Washington (887K), Florida (883K), Michigan (515K), and California (433K)

  • Travel Party Composition*: Spouse/Partner (63.1 percent), Family/Relatives (58.4 percent), Friends(s) (19.3 percent)

  • Average Length of Stay (6.9 Nights), Average Number of U.S. States Visited (1.9)
    Average Household Income ($88,994), Average Expenditures in the United States Per-Travel Party ($2,497)

  • Top Main Purpose of Trip: Vacation/Holiday (73.9 percent), Visit Friends/Relatives (21.5 percent), and Business (3.6 percent)

  • Top Leisure Activities Engaged: Sightseeing (47.4 percent), Shopping (32.8 percent), Experience Fine Dining (25.1 percent), Visit National Parks/Monuments (20.4 percent), and Visit Concert/Play/Musical (18.5 percent)
