April 2026 Total International Travel Volume to and from the United States
In April 2026, international visitor arrivals to the United States totaled 5,645,630, while outbound travel departures from the United States by U.S. citizens totaled 8,518,078

Data recently released by the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) show that in April 2026:

International Arrivals to the United States

  • Total non-U.S. resident international visitor volume to the United States of 5,645,630 decreased 5.5 percent compared to April 2025 (Note: Easter was on April 20th in 2025 and on April 5th 2026, potentially impacting April 2025 and April 2026 comparisons).

  • The largest number of international visitor arrivals was from Mexico (1,665,114), followed by Canada (1,363,690), the United Kingdom (356,712), France (161,811), and India (156,279). Combined, these top 5 source markets accounted for 66 percent of total international arrivals.

  • The top 5 overseas tourism arrivals for April were the United Kingdom (304,371), France (144,974), Brazil (137,041), India (113,191), and Japan (106,134).

  • The top 5 overseas business arrivals for April were the United Kingdom (50,892), India (38,107), Germany (25,805), Japan (24,022), and China (17,394).

  • The top 5 overseas student arrivals for April were China (8,230), India (4,981), South Korea (1,862), the United Kingdom (1,449), and Brazil (1,390).

International Departures from the United States

  • Total U.S. citizen international visitor departures from the United States of 8,518,078 increased 2 percent compared to April 2025.

  • The market share for North America (Mexico & Canada) was 50.2 percent and overseas was 49.8 percent.

  • Mexico recorded the largest outbound visitor volume of 3,204,057 (37.6 percent of total departures for April). Canada recorded a year-over-year (YOY) increase of 6.5 percent.

  • Combined YTD, Mexico (13,702,545) and the Caribbean (3,947,662) accounted for 53.4 percent of total U.S. citizen international visitor departures.

  • Europe was the second largest market for outbound U.S. visitors with 1,834,932 departures. This accounted for 21.5 percent of all departures in April. Outbound visitation to Europe in April 2026 increased 5.2 percent compared to April 2025.
