In September 2025, international visitor arrivals to the United States totaled 5,477,289, a decrease of 11 percent compared to September 2024
Outbound travel departures from the United States by U.S. citizens totaled 8,546,659 in September 2025, an increase of 0.5 percent compared to September 2024
Data recently released by the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) show that in September 2025:
International Arrivals to the United States
- Total non-U.S. resident international visitor volume to the United States of 5,477,289 decreased 11% compared to September 2024 and represents 81.7% of the pre-COVID total visitor volume reported for September 2019.
- Overseas visitor volume to the United States of 2,826,200 decreased 7.7 % from September 2024.
- The largest number of international visitor arrivals was from Mexico (1,505,562), Canada (1,145,527), the United Kingdom (373,675), Japan (194,092), and Germany (162,435). Combined, these top 5 source markets accounted for 61.7% of total international arrivals.
- The top 5 overseas tourism arrivals for September were the United Kingdom (318,430), Japan (161,536), Germany (135,711), Brazil (120,172), and South Korea (118,004).
- The top 5 overseas business arrivals for September were the United Kingdom (53,645), India (44,120), Japan (29,787), Germany (25,468), and China (17,823).
- The top 5 overseas student arrivals for September were China (29,176), India (11,700), South Korea (4,225), Taiwan (2,971), and Japan (2,769).
International Departures from the United States
- Total U.S. citizen international visitor departures from the United States of 8,546,659 increased 0.5% compared to September 2024 and were 112.6% of total departures in pre-pandemic September 2019.
- The year-to-date (YTD) market share for North America (Mexico & Canada) was 49.1% and overseas was 50.9%.
- Mexico recorded the largest outbound visitor volume of 2,916,364 (34.1% of total departures for September). Canada recorded a year-over-year (YOY) decrease of 2.7%.
- Combined YTD, Mexico (30,870,494) and the Caribbean (8,855,434) accounted for 47.1% total U.S. citizen international visitor departures.
- Europe was the second largest market for outbound U.S. visitors with 2,494,825 departures. This accounted for 29.2% of all departures in September. Outbound visitation to Europe in September 2025 increased 4.8% compared to September 2024.
