International Air Passenger Enplanements To and From the U.S. Down 2.4 percent Year Over Year in March 2026
Overseas Visitation to the U.S. Up 3.6 percent Year Over Year in March 2026
Data recently released by the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) show that in March 2026:
U.S.-international air traffic passenger enplanements1 totaled:
- 22 million in March 2026, down 2.4 percent compared to March 2025*, with enplanements reaching 103.1 percent of pre-pandemic March 2019 volume.
*Note: Easter was on April 20th in 2025 and on April 5th 2026, potentially impacting March 2025 and March 2026 comparisons.
Originating Non-Stop Air Travel in March 2026
- Non-U.S. citizen air passenger arrivals to the United States from foreign countries totaled:
- 4.6 million in March 2026, up 0.9 percent compared to March 2025.
- This represents 88 percent of pre-pandemic March 2019 volume.
On a related note, overseas visitor arrivals2 totaled 2.5 million in March 2026, up 3.6 percent from March 2025 and reached 85.8 percent of pre-pandemic March 2019 volume, up from 85.2 percent in February 2026. - U.S. citizen air passenger departures from the United States to foreign countries totaled:
- 6.4 million in March 2026, down 2.1 percent from March 2025.
- This exceeded March 2019 volume by 19.4 percent.
World Region Highlights in March 2026 (APIS/I-92 arrivals + departures)
- Total air passenger travel (arrivals and departures) between the United States and other countries were led by Mexico (3.6 million, -10.7 percent Year-Over-Year (YOY)), Canada (2.6 million, -7.3 percent YOY), the United Kingdom (1.5 million, +3.3 percent YOY), the Dominican Republic (1.1 million, +9.6 percent YOY), and Japan (1 million, +8.3 percent YOY).
- International regional air travel to/from the United States:
- Europe totaled 5.4 million passengers, up 3.5 percent from March 2025, and up 3.1 percent compared to March 2019.
- South/Central America/Caribbean totaled 6.3 million, up 2.7 percent from March 2025, and up 17.1 percent compared to March 2019.
- Asia totaled 3 million passengers, up 10.5 percent over March 2025, but down 4.8 percent compared to March 2019.
- Middle East totaled 498,316 passengers, down 54.1 percent from March 2025, and down 40 percent compared to March 2019.
- Top U.S. ports serving international locations were New York (JFK) 2.5 million, Miami (MIA) 2.2 million, Los Angeles (LAX) 1.9 million, San Francisco (SFO) 1.3 million, and Atlanta (ATL) 1.3 million.
- Top foreign ports serving U.S. locations were London Heathrow (LHR) 1.4 million, Cancun (CUN) 1.2 million, Toronto (YYZ) 1.1 million, Mexico City (MEX) 707,000, and Paris (CDG) 613,000.
